On this platform, I explore decoration through a breezy, lived-in coastal aesthetic. Collecting seashells for DIY projects thrills me, allowing me to indulge in my tiny shelling addiction. The effortless charm of the coast always captivates me.
Hydrangeas are my favorite flowers, with their soft, soothing blue hues transporting me straight to Cape Cod. These colors evoke the timeless elegance associated with the Coastal Grandmother style.
Cape Cod is where I grew up, and it is where my love for the Coastal Grandmother aesthetic truly began. Spending endless days on the beach, I collected seashells while appreciating the coastal beauty.
My Journey of Shelling
Captiva Island is where I first fell in love with Florida. That’s where my love for shelling became a full-blown obsession! The shells there are colorful and abundant, so different from the delicate treasures I adore along the Cape Cod shores. From a young age, I love shelling; however, I ensure not to disturb the ecosystem.”
That unforgettable vacation in Captiva made me fall in love with shells even more!. I even learned the names of almost every shell! My most exciting moment? Selling rare finds to the Bailey Shell Museum for some extra cash was something my 12-year-old self thought was amazing!
Like most kids my age, others had newspaper routes or lemonade stands—but I had a shell stand. I spent hours crafting little seashell owls and tiny sea creatures, selling my handmade creations with pride. I wish I still had a photo of that little stand!
I’m sharing this story because it’s such a big part of who I am. I decorate with seashells, I craft with seashells—I just LOVE seashells! We moved our little family of four to the Midwest in 2001. I brought my treasured shell collection with me.
Coastal style has always been my favorite! At first, I just wanted my home to feel like HOME. Over time, I found that the Coastal Grandmother style really brings me joy. This style is breezy, relaxed, and elegant. It comforts me, making me feel at home no matter where I am.
Friends in the Midwest loved the coastal decor in my home. Over the years, I’ve seen many people embrace this timeless style, even if they don’t live near the beach.
Staying true to what I love and not worrying about trends is how I decorate. I add something fun and fresh occasionally. My style has stayed the same. The Coastal Grandmother style has been in all my homes—13 so far! It is effortless, soothing, and inspired by the sea. Shades of blue and sand always bring me peace, creating that tranquil, coastal-inspired home I adore.
Some facts to get to know me better
My sweetheart and I have been married for over 40 years, and we’re still making memories together.
Gigi is my name and I have two wonderful children and two precious grand-loves who completely own my heart.
You’ll almost always find me with a Dunkin’ coffee in hand—I drink a lot of it!
I may or may not hide chocolate around the house… okay, I definitely do.
I’m hopelessly disorganized, which keeps life interesting since I’m married to a Type A, ultra-organized guy. (Opposites really do attract!)
These days, I split my time between Ohio and Florida, and let me tell you—retirement is pretty great!
I’m beyond blessed that my parents are in great health, and I visit them as much as I can.
Having two two brothers and three sisters, we’re all really close friends
We recently got an RV, and I can’t wait for all the fun adventures ahead! My husband has always dreamed of this, and I’m excited to join him on the ride.
Burrowing Owls are the cutest little things that bring me joy…. we have them all over Marco Island , I’ll include some of my pics in a future blog post
As for blogging? Well, I have no idea what I’m doing! I’m figuring it out as I go, which seems to be the story of my life. But hey, that’s part of the adventure, right?
The name Fearless Mermaid came about many years ago—I’ve always been nicknamed a mermaid (surprised?).
Essence of Fearless Mermaid.
Like many women my age, I’ve faced my share of tough and scary family challenges. One day, in the midst of it all, I found myself crying in church, quietly asking God for strength. A dear friend gently reminded me, “You can never let your fear be bigger than your faith. Faith always wins.” That moment changed me, and it’s why I chose this name. It’s also how I try to live my life—fearlessly, with faith leading the way.
How Fearless Mermaid Became More Than a Name
For years, I’ve been sharing photos on Instagram and Facebook, simply posting what brings me joy. Over time, this turned into a side business in product photography and affiliate marketing. If you don’t know, affiliate marketing is when I suggest a product. The brand might give me a small commission, but it won’t cost you anything. And because I love trying and sharing great products anyway, it’s a perfect fit!
But here’s the thing—I only recommend products that I personally buy or would buy myself. While I do receive boxes of products for testing, many of them get sent right back.
